After spending five nights in Seville, it was time to continue my trip and change country. So adiós Seville, Spain, and bonjour Marseille, France!
| Trip from Seville to Barcelona on Wednesday morning. |
Another fast train from Barcelona to Marseille. I was first planning to go by no high-speed trains and thereby not having to pay for the seat reservation, but I needed to take this train in order to be in Marseille still on the same day. But for that I got to spend two hours in Barcelona! :)
| On the trip. Together about 10 hours sitting in trains, but it was not that bad and atleast I got to rest a bit. |
| Starting my journey today at 8.50, arriving in Marseille at 21.25. Everything went as planned and the hostel I am staying at is amazing! |
Donnerstag (17.3):
Today I took a walk in the city the port. In the evening there was a community dinner at the Hostel! It was really nice and the food was good! Amazing that Hostels organize stuff like this!
| Sightseeing in Marseille |
| On the hill you can see the church Notre Dame de la Garde. |
| Quarter des Createurs, the stairs up to Cours Julien. Here are a lot of cafés, Restaurants and ice cream cafés. Many peple come here to relax. When visiting Marseille, I recommend to drop by here and have a drink, coffee or an ice cream. |
| The view from Cours Julien. The terrain around here is also varying. |
Friday (18.3):
The weather was again lovely! I fell in love with Marseille so I prologned the time I spend here until Monday. There are so many things to explore so it definitively requires one extra weekend in order to get to experience everything and enjoy the sunny weather. I had to change hostel today, but before that I went for a run along the beach and up the hill to the church.
| Photos from my running trip. I finally recovered from my cold :) (down): running up to the church and finally up on the hill. |
| In the afternoon we, a friend from the first hostel and I, went with the boat to the islands, which are situated outside the city. (Up): château d'if, the castle. We did not stop by here, but instead continued to the bigger islands: les Iles Frioul (all other photos). The place is just amazing and georgeous and soo beautiful! It is a must to visit! A bit expensive though, 10.80€ each for visiting just one of the islands, but in the end it was really worth it! |
| More photos from this amazing island! You could really spend here the whole day! And the weather was perfect for this trip! |
| The sunset was so beautiful! |
| In the evening we, three from the hostel and I, went to a concert Babel med Music-festival. It was an amazing evening and a perfect end for this day! |
Saturday (19.3):
Today was a good day! Weather sunny and warm, got to see and experience alot.
| In the morning played Petanque, was really nice! |
After this I met up with a guy from my second Hostel and we took the bus 21 to Luminy, from there hiking in the National Park of Marseille, les Calanques. This place is just amazing! Just look at the pictures and you will fall in love with this place!
| The view is just breathtaking! On the hills you could also see many rock- or landslides (d.r). |
| Continued hiking along narrow, sometimes almost dangerous trails, enjoying the view and nature. Sometimes climbing down or up required chains or stairs in order to climb there. |
If you love to hike you should not miss Calanque! Sometimes I also tried more dangerous routes and found myself climbing down a rocky hill, without any marked routes, but got down safe. The experience was just amazing! When going here be prepaired of walking and climbing a lot! But it is all worth the effort! In the evening I went for a Party at the first Hostel. So much you get to experience in such a short time. Just amazing!
Sunday (20.3):
Last day in Marseille. Today the weather was more cloudy but it was not raining, so once again a good day to walk around in Marseille.
| Park Longchamp, southeast of the train Station. From here you also have a nice view over the city. |
| We used the city bikes (1€ for one week, until 30 minutes of biking for free!!) and biked to the Palm Beach. A little bit cold but beautiful! |
I really love Marseille! Tomorrow heading towards Italy!
My favorites in Marseille: take a run along the Sea, Basilika Notre Dame, hiking in the National park Calanques and daytrip to the islands.
